Pepperl+Fuchs / Fault Relay Assignment
KFD2-SR2-EX1.W.LB provides a Pepperl+Fuchs single-channel switch amplifier with a configurable second relay role. Its value depends on how the panel uses that output. This guide examines signal duplication and fault reporting separately, helping engineers describe the intended function before a replacement is ordered or a drawing is revised.
Decide what output II should mean
The official safety manual explains that output II can serve as a signal output or a fault indication output. First, determine which role the installed circuit uses. Then mark it on the loop sheet. A second relay connection should not automatically be described as a duplicate signal without checking the actual settings.
KFD2-SR2-EX1.W.LB signal splitting
Pepperl+Fuchs lists use as a signal splitter with one input and two outputs. This can support two receiving paths for one field condition. However, the receiving loads and the selected operating mode still require review. Record both destinations and their purpose so the additional contact does not lose its meaning in later maintenance work.
Give a fault its own destination
When output II reports faults, identify the alarm input and the expected operator message. In addition, consider the collective error path when the device uses Power Rail. The aim is to preserve a clear distinction between process information and circuit health. An explicit alarm description makes that distinction useful outside the electrical drawing.
Configuration evidence to retain
- The sensor reference and approved field wiring.
- The selected role of output II and operating direction.
- The line fault detection setting and alarm destination.
Store these details with the spare specification. They give the replacement technician an auditable reference, especially when the cabinet contains several visually similar relay barriers serving different operational purposes.
Specify the complete functional requirement
The unit accepts NAMUR or contact inputs and has published safety capability up to SIL 2 under manufacturer conditions. For purchasing, provide the exact suffix, article number, quantity, and documentation needs. Also, identify any requested alternative separately. Engineering can then review the proposed output behavior before the commercial order is finalized.
