This isolation barrier is used for intrinsically safe applications. It supplies a source voltage to the potentiometer and transfers its tap position from a hazardous area to a safe area. Then it converts the signal to 0 V 10 V voltage output (consistent with 0 ma… 20 mA current output, for example, see kfd2-pt2-ex1-4).

Depending on the required measurement accuracy, the device can be used in 3-wire, 4-wire or 5-wire configurations. Terminals 2 and 5 are used as sensing lines for potentiometer lead resistance compensation in a 5-wire configuration.

The potentiometer of the barrier can be used to compensate for lead resistance up to 5% of the potentiometer value of the hazardous area
